When you book a car, you only need a credit or debit card.
At the desk, however, you will need it:
- The passport
- The voucher
- The driving licence of each driver
- The main driver’s credit card (only a few companies also accept debit cards).
Important: also check the terms of the rental, as each company has its own rules. For example, they may require extra ID, not accept certain types of credit cards, or not rent to drivers who have had their licence for less than 36 months.
Most companies will not mind renting you a car if you are at least 21 years old, and some even if you are 18. But sometimes you have to pay a special fee (‘young driver’) if you are under 25.

- Think carefully about your destination: a SUV is ideal for motorways and off-road driving, for example, but if you need to drive to Cagliari or Alghero, a small, manageable car is definitely better.
